Kaffe .9.1 for bsdi 3.0 ??

I'm trying (after a year's absence from kaffe ...) to compile kaffe 0.9.1 
on BSDI 3.0

I get the following compile error.

gcc -g -O -DNO_SHARED_LIBRARIES -I. -I. -I./../../config -I../../config

funcs.c:8815:Unknown pseudo-op:  '.global'
funcs.c:8815:Rest of line ignored. 1st junk character valued 95 (_).


examination shows that this is the 'TRAMPOLINE' assembly code ... but
beyond 
that I suspect its just the assembler for BSDI 3.0 is different ...
Anyone have a fix for this ? or any clues ?
