trouble getting Kaffe to work with Java Application

First:  is Motif required?
I am getting the following error at the point where the main window
should open:

Failed to locate native function:
        sun/awt/motif/MToolkit.init()V
java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError
        at sun/awt/motif/MToolkit.<init>(41)
        at java/awt/Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit(190)
        at MapPanel.<init>(31)
        at MainWindow.<init>(14)
        at MainWindow.main(127)

I can't get it to work on a sparc with Motif either. . .
Anyone got better docs?
