Marc,
I tried applying your original patch to the most recent version of
the file and it didn't apply cleanly... I thought this was because
you were patching against an older version, but maybe there was
some other screwup.

I see DataInputStream.java as version 1.2, and
MD5 (DataInputStream.java) = 7021c3627d69287492f8d199cbf62388

In any case, please re-send your patch, lost the old one.
Also a simple test program if you got one.
