"Failed to locate native library in path:" on Linux Redhat 5.1

I have looked through the archives and there seems to be quite a few
references to this problem on Suns and none on Linux I could see.
Even on the Sun's I never noticed an actual soluton to this problem.

[chris at phobos javatest]$ kaffe HelloWorld
Failed to locate native library in path:
        /usr/lib:/usr/local/lib
Aborting.

I have checked the library path in my environment:

LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib:/usr/local/lib

and the following is a listing of the kaffe libraries in /usr/lib.

Does anyone have any ideas.
