regression test failures

i recently dled and built kaffe.  linux 2.0.30.  compilation went
fairly smoothly after i added the symlink from libld.so -> libld.so.1
but...when i run make test, i get ClassNotFoundException each test.
this happens when i run kaffe by hand on a class as well.  what dont i
have installed correctly?  i have CLASSPATH set to Klasses.jar and
pizza.jar in /usr/local/share/kaffe.

this is what it looks like:

(1.18) /usr/local/src/kaffe-1.0.b1# make test

  Should have got:

  But got instead:
java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: HelloWorldApp

TestIntLong ...
...(and on and on)

i dont have any other java software installed on my machine and i know
very little about the java system.

any help would be a blessing.
