Which version of Kaffe ? There was a problem in the original 1.0b1
where the interpreter (not the JIT) had a problem that was manifesting
itself in a similar fashion (error in processing a jar file, but the
real problem was in a wrong cast from Java char to Java int).

I found the problem and the fix has been integrated in one of the
successive snapshots (like a week after the first release).
But again, that specific problem was present only in the pure interpreter,
not in the JIT version.
