Socket Problems

Having checked the mail-list archives, I have found that this question
has been oft asked but ne'er answered, so here we go again....

Using 0.8.4 on BSDI 2.1, things seem to work...sort of.  Sockets do
this:

java.lang.NullPointerException
        at java/lang/Runtime.initializeLinker(line unknown, pc 0xa584d)
        at java/lang/Runtime.loadLibrary(line unknown, pc 0xa50ec)
        at java/lang/System.loadLibrary(line unknown, pc 0xa3583)
        at java/net/PlainSocketImpl.<clinit>(63)

Anybody figured this one out?  Any patches/workarounds?
