yes it was done to try not to confuse the header precompiler. The patch 
was tested on other systems though... So it is strange it fails for you. 
Darwin at that time had other problems and it (or I) could have been 
confused by them. THose are mostly solved so you could try reverting the 
patch and see if it still breaks darwin.
