I can't massage test/internal/Makefile to link the test program
staticly -- no matter what I do I wind up with a dynamic executable.
Is there some magic I'm missing that does this?

I'm pretty sure I can run dynamic executables on my target box, it's
just that I can't get them to run yet.

Timothy> Oy... So does the "add-symbol-file" in gdb fail?

I don't have an assembler to test with (yet) anyway.
