It simply means that the version of gtk that came with your system is
too old and you need to upgrade it somehow. I have never used Suse
personally but some googling pointed me to http://www.usr-local-
bin.org/rpms/usr-local-bin.php which seems to hold more recent versions
of for example the gtk packages. You want at least the packages 
gtk2-2.4.13-100.SuSE.ulb.1.i586.rpm and
gtk2-devel-2.4.13-100.SuSE.ulb.1.i586.rpm
