1.0.b3 was kind of a mistake, it's mostly broken.  Unfortunately, so
is the current CVS tree (except for FreeBSD), since last Friday :-(

You may have better luck if you check out -D "Jan 27, 1999", or wait
until the problem is fixed (which I expect to happen today)
